Hello Galveston County CERT Family!
The locations of our meetings and training are changing frequently, so please pay attention to the information that is on the website calendars and the registration forms that we fill out to participate in trainings and events.
One of the locations that we will be using is the Pioneer House which is part of the Carbide Park but has its own entrance which is just east of the main Carbide Park entrance at 4102 Main Street (FM 519) in La Marque. The house is surrounded by a chain link fence and has its own parking at the back of the house, and its own entrance off of FM 519.
May’s monthly meeting will take place on May 1st and will start at 6:30 pm at the Pioneer House at Carbide Park. We will discuss the use of the Zello app as a short training discussion.
Here are some of the trainings and events that are coming your way!
Our 2nd CERT Academy will take place in May at the Bayside Regional Park in Bacliff. The dates are May 3,4,5,10, and 11. We need our CERT members to come out on Saturday, May 11th at 12:45 pm to help with the graduation drill. Please bring your CERT bag in case you are asked to help as a responder.
We will conduct an American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR/AED/First Aid class over a 2-night period on May 20-21 at the Pioneer House at Carbide Park. The class hours are 6pm-10pm each night.
We will conduct a bandaging skills and Stop-the-Bleed course on May 22 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm at the Pioneer House at Carbide Park.
We are offering a class on recognizing orthopedic injuries and splinting skills on May 23, from 6:30pm – 9:30pm at the Pioneer House at Carbide Park.
Operation Safe and Sound will take place on May 25 – 27, follow this link and register for a shift! Please mark your calendars and come out for this very important event!
CERT may be asked to assist during evacuation operations with Galveston County by staffing an Evacuation Triage Team. The State is offering virtual training for Evacuation Triage Team members on May 23, from 9 am – Noon. Please go online to register at https://nationalemr.us/course-registration-form/ .
When disaster strikes, it can be a challenge to effectively mobilize, organize, and deploy resources needed to perform wide area searches. You will be instructed in practical search methods and skills so you can perform systematic searches over a large affected area. The training will include challenging exercises that mirror real life scenarios. The three-day long event will conclude with an in-depth exercise that requires participants to utilize the skills gained during the course by working through an incident from start to finish in a single operational period.

NOTE: When registering online, note it is a two-step process. First, create an account on the TEEX Student Portal (if you don’t already have one) and then register for the class. You will also need your FEMA student ID when registering. You will then need to be logged in before clicking the registration link. You will know you are done when you see a bar code and confirmation. I have attached a couple of documents that explain the process.
